# What is physics?

The first question that comes to my mind is “what exactly is physics?”

Physics is a natural science involved in the study of matter and its motion through spacetime.

The 4-step process to solve a physics problem

“Before we get started, Miley, I want to cover a 4-step process in which you can solve a physics problem.”

“The reason is, you should use this technique, NOT the ‘sit and stare’ technique, where hopefully you can look at a question and the answer just POPS out at you HA!”

The 4 steps to solve a physics problem are:

1. Draw a well labelled diagram
2. Focus on the free body you are interested in
3. Find the formula given the variables you have
4. Plug ‘n chug, calculating the answer

For instance, what is the weight of you Miley?

Step 1: here is an artistic impression of Miley in a scene, i.e.:

“Pretty snazzy, showing off you and Mandy have five fingers, haha,” Joe laughed.

“No it’s our hand bags that are awesome,” Miley commented.

Step 2: Next, we focus on the free-body we’re interested in, which is you Miley, i.e.:

“Hey guys,” Miley started, “you blurred out Mandy!”

“That’s the point Miley,” Demi responded, “we focus in on you

Step 3: Find the formula given the variables we have.

Now we know Miley is 104 pounds = 47 kilograms, meaning that $m=47kg$.

We also know acceleration due to gravity on earth is $9.8m/s^2$, meaning $a=9.8m/s^2$.

We can therefore find force by the formula $F=ma$.

Step 4: We then plug ‘n chug, so $F=ma=47*9.8=460.6N$. Therefore, $F=460N$, rounding off.

“Always use the above 4-step method Miley,” said Joe, “never just do nothing in a test!”
