6.3 Range

Range

A range shows how the data is spread. The range is defined as, range = highest score – lowest score. For example, the range of the set of numbers {20, 11, 42, 69, 51, 42, 33, 95, 74, 11}, given 95 is the highest score, and 11 is the lowest score, 95-11=84.

In the above histogram example, the range refers to the variance in the vertical axis.

Here, the highest score is 8, and the lowest score is 1. Therefore, the range is 8-1=7.
